How to use this book

Advocating for your child can feel overwhelming – especially when you know something is not working but aren’t sure how to put your concerns into writing. This book is designed to help parents communicate clearly, professionally, and collaboratively with school teams while ensuring concerns are documented.

Tips for success:

  • Personalize each letter with your child’s name, school, and details
  • Keep copies of everything
  • Send letters by email or certified mail when appropriate.
  • Maintain a calm, professional tone – even when concerns feel urgent

Remember, YOU are the expert in your child and an essential member of your child’s IEP team. These letters ensure your voice is heard.

Advocating for your child isn’t always easy, but it is always worth it.
